La Chaumière is the last restaurant in Strasbourg with a fireplace inside to grill meat and liven up the dining room. It’s a real country decor with lots of rustic wood, vintage posters and a fully preserved art nouveau style showcase. A rather unique atmosphere in Strasbourg.This restaurant has been taken over by a young and dynamic team with a real desire to bring the kitchen, the dining room and therefore its identity back up to date.
In order not to betray the history and tradition of the restaurant, the visual identity was conceived as a tribute to its past. And to do so, many elements of the restaurant have been added as winks in the logo. First of all, the colours: a range of blues is highlighted, with a pale blue as a background colour, contrasted with a dark blue, to highlight the information and illustrations. To create a last contrast and link the whole, a white slightly tinged with grey will soften this range and allow a real hierarchy of elements.
The typography is classic, with serifs, in order to mark the tradition, we add a light italic to enrich the whole. As the restaurant works with products from the market, on certain declinations, the typography will be highlighted in different sizes to create a simple and readable graphic language.
A monogram composed of the letters “CH” decorates the whole and is placed in a circle to give meaning to this quality house. This monogram will be declined later on elements such as the salt and pepper shaker. The frame in which the logo is placed has taken the shape in places of the restaurant’s window. This unique and perfectly preserved window (as mentioned above) is a flagship element of this restaurant.
A stamp has been added to highlight the particularity of wood-fired cooking. This particular style serves as a certificate and highlights a know-how that does not exist anywhere else in the city.
Finally, and this is the very important part of this package, original and funny illustrations were created to accentuate the dynamism and the particularity of this place. The vegetables mix with the meats to create a totally unique bestiary. The graphic treatment with many lines allows to keep the coherence of the vintage style of the restaurant, each element can be added to the different communication supports, they can be isolated, like mascots. The whole is thought as a toolbox in order to bring adapted and easy solutions to the different needs of the restaurant. This identity can, like the bestiary that has been created, evolve over the years to remain in perpetual motion.
