Branding for Romaversitas by Divisart

Romaversitas is a Roma-founded, Roma-led community organization, founded in 1996. Their vision is a strong Romani intelligentsia that can assert the interests of Roma communities and create narratives for Roma People.
Their mission is providing assistance for young Roma to acquire academic degrees, strengthen their skills, shape their identity and empower them to build resilient communities.
The Roma constitutes the largest minority in Hungary with an estimated share of 7 percent of the total population of 10 million. As a result of systematic racism, Roma still faces numerous obstacles in accessing their rights, including the equal access to educational resources.
Despite some progress of the past few decades, not more than 20-25 percent of European Roma continue education after the school-leaving age, while two out of three young Romani students in Hungary drop out of the education system without a high school diploma. The gap between Roma and non-Roma students is still comparable to the size of the Black-White test score gap in the United States in the 1980s.
The founders of Romaversitas are convinced that the education of Romani youth is a long-term investment that brings about sustainable and real social change.
After a year of working with many meetings and consultations, we renewed the entire corporate design of the foundation. Based on the brief, the traces of the previous design elements (eg the symbolic wheel shape) had to be preserved, but we were able to create a completely new youthful image that could be varied in many different ways, especially in its colors and shapes. The small elements of the logo’s font come to life in a variety of designs rich in the colors of Gypsy culture – creating the opportunity for many educational programs, collaborations and fundraising campaigns to have diverse, yet unified appearances.
