During the US economic boom after World War II, Americans began to spend more and shop more as the economy boomed and a culture of consumerism flourished.

The concept of prepared food for sale is closely connected to urban development. Homes in emerging cities often lack adequate space or proper food preparation facilities. Additionally, purchasing cooking fuel can be as expensive as the product purchased.
