Brand Identity Student Concept for the Theatre Vakhtangov Practicum by Maria Kozlova

Starting in 2020, the creative association founded by director Asya Knyazeva, together with graduates of the B. Shchukin, GITIS and St. Petersburg State University, creates original performances, highlighting both topical and eternal themes. Today, the audience is invited to watch three works, and a loud premiere is just around the corner!

The global goal is to create our own theater, and in order to realize our plans, we strive to become better every day. In particular, it was decided to make changes to the design of social networks and printed media and develop a memorable identity.

The main task was to develop a universal and simple visual system that would characterize the theater, but not overlap the nature of specific performances. After all, the theater is known by its performances, and they are each quite independent and very different from each other, thanks to the skill of the actors and the director. Therefore, it was decided to use a monochrome color scheme and simple typographic techniques.

The idea of an identity for the Vakhtangov practicum is based on the fact that few people know what theater actors look like. In makeup, the actor remains known only in his image. Therefore, in the identity, actors appear in their everyday images. Since the Vakhtangov practicum is very young, its most important asset is its people. The emphasis in this identity is on them.
The actors literally talk to the audience and invite them to watch the transformation from a simple person into a whole image on stage.

Special thanks should be expressed to the Russian Higher School of Economics (HSE School of Art and Design) and teacher Tanya Dunaeva, whose experience and support helped in the implementation of this project.
