Brand Identity for SOVA Science District Designed by MiresBall

Longfellow Real Estate Partners set out to bring a modern life sciences campus to Sorrento Valley, building a more collaborative community focused on innovation in a place where new ideas converge.

With a collection of 19 buildings scattered throughout the valley, they needed a name and brand identity to tie a disconnected footprint together.

The brand name – SOVA Science District – suggests the project’s location in the heart of Sorrento Valley that features innovative lab space, creative office, and amenity areas designed to inspire.

Referencing a campus of dispersed buildings, the identity assembles multiple pieces into a whole.

Used individually and as a pattern, the brand’s shapes become a signature asset for a variety of applications. Collaboration with building and landscape architects threaded brand elements throughout the project, further uniting the campus.

The brand narrative highlights a location ideally suited to nurture a community of early-stage innovators, posing the question: “What happens when powerful forces come together in a centrally-located supportive environment where outdoor amenities invite and inspire?”

SOVA successfully launched North Carolina-based Longfellow on the West Coast, setting the stage for a rapidly increasing regional portfolio of over one million sq ft. The project was selected as a Winner of San Diego Business Journal’s 2021 Best Life Science Project of the Year. Services: Naming, Brand Strategy, Visual Identity. DGA, Architect; GroundLevel, Landscape Architect; Celeste Byers, Muralist
