Brand Design for Kiosk

Brand Design for Kiosk

Project Overview
Kiosk is a techno club in Brooklyn that strikes a nice balance between grungy and put together. The club has a packed calendar full of the best underground DJs in the area. The club, which has a youthful and counter culture following, needed a branding system that would match its aesthetic and be authentic to its target audience, ages 23–34.

The logo is a simple wordmark with an extended ‘O’ character, giving the brand a quirky appearance. The ‘O’ can be extended to a variety of sizes, making room for illustration and other elements to playfully interact with it. The ‘I’ character was also modified with serifs to give the letters a more even width and symmetrical balance. The illustrations that adorne just about everything around Kiosk come from a huge variety of people, from the performing DJs to local artists to Kiosk regulars. These illustrations have an artistic and creative quality that helps solidify Kiosk as a counter culture brand that subverts typical branding solutions. The color palette is limited to just black and white, creating an unapologetic look.

Kiosk’s approach to marketing is to foster intrigue and authenticity by allowing the public to discover its brand on their own. Print marketing focuses on the bold illustration and large type, with minimal and subtle branding. Apparel design features illustration and type in large and confident arrangements.

The digital system for Kiosk is an important element to connect to fans, but needed to be done differently so as to not look bland. The website has a radical and quirky quality, with oversized type, blocky cards, and unconventional interface elements. Social media is raw and authentic, with images and event promotions that show lots of weirdness and fun personalty.
