Brand and Packaging Design for English Sparkling Wine Producer

 The Uncommon In-house –  The Uncommon Wine

We are The Uncommon, an English wine producer based in London. We make wine, really good English wine in cans. The Uncommon is the UK’s first premium, English sparkling wine in a can – available in white and rosé variants. We launched last year with our inaugural release – a lightly sparkling white wine. The Design – We wanted to create a brand that has a premium yet approachable feel and makes our wine more accessible to everyone, so it was important to encourage people to take an interest in our brand visually. The illustrations needed to have an adventurous, curious and English feel. Each wine has a different character to represent the characteristics of the wine.We want people to ‘explore’ our wine and to be taken on an adventure. This is reflected by the perforated edges of the labels that represent a stamp. The back label moves away from the standard ‘tasting notes’ that suggest your wine has to go with seafood or a steak, and we use ‘Pairs perfectly with…’ followed by a number of colloquialisms to add some good old English humour.The unusual theme continues with the packaging for the wine. The eco-friendly string bag made from organic cotton has a recycled cork label, hand stitched in Peckham, South East London and demonstrates a different take on the ‘multipack’.We have put together a brief outline below and hope you like it! Our WineIt is new: We are the first people to can wine in the UK.It is English: We support thoughtful English growers.It is local: All stages of our wine making process are within 25 miles of us in London.It is clean: It’s vegan and the grapes are hand harvested from vineyards at the forefront of sustainable farming.It is lean: The wine has 80% less sugar than Prosecco.It is green: We use no single-use packaging at all like our organic, biodegradable, Fairtrade net bags with recycled cork labels.Our CanIt goes where no glass has gone before…It has a carbon footprint that is 80% lighter than glass.It is single serve (250ml) and a solution to the oceanic wine wastage issue in the UK.It is light and it stacks tight.It is 100% endlessly recyclable.It is convenient and safe.It chills in under 10 minutes.It eliminates the risk of spoilage by air and light
