Flamberg Gin is an alcoholic beverage obtained by distillation from a base of selected grain wheat. In a further procedure, botanicals along with water are added until the desired flavours are met. To be called a Gin, the Spirit must have a predominant flavor of Juniper berries. Nearly all juniper used in gin is picked wild. Almost none is cultivated. 35 botanic in total with 24 native from different parts of England, Juniper, angelica root, cassia bark, coriander seed, orris root, cinnamon, liquorice, elderflowers, orange peel, lemon balm, lemon peel, thyme, wood sage, chamomile, Gorse flowers, Hawthorn flowers, Creeping Thistle flowers, Lady’s Bedstraw flowers, Heather flowers, white clover, red clover, birch leaves, sweet cicely, bog myrtle, tansy, meadow sweet, mugwort, apple mint, peppermint, water mint.
Both juniper and the Gaelic language were once more widespread in the Scottish Highlands. The Gaelic names for this shrub or small tree were Aittin or Aiten, and Samh. These words are still with us in place names such as Attadale in Wester Ross and Samhan near Mull. The writer Hugh Fife suggests that juniper was sometimes referred to as mountain yew. As such some place names incorporating the Gaelic word Iubhair (yew) may in fact be referring to juniper.
