Volfas-Engelman
Volfas-Engelman is Lithuania’s second-largest brewery, holding an impressive 30% share of the market in both volume and value. With over a century of brewing heritage, the brand is synonymous with quality and tradition. However, in recent years it faced a growing challenge: its image was losing traction among younger consumers, particularly men aged 20–29, who were increasingly seeking more modern and dynamic expressions in the beer category.
The Challenge
The task was to create a new sub-brand . Volfas-Engelman ICE that would reinvigorate the brewery’s appeal to younger audiences. This meant combining product innovation with a refreshed brand image that could bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary lifestyle, while maintaining the credibility of the parent brand.
The Solution
The design direction preserved the core Volfas-Engelman identity, ensuring continuity with the brand’s established aesthetic, while injecting a fresh, modern energy. To achieve this, innovative printing techniques were employed, most notably the use of thermochromic inks.
This innovation turned packaging into an experience: when chilled to the perfect drinking temperature, the icon and tessellated pattern shift to an icy blue, signaling that the beer is ready to enjoy. The result is not only visually striking but also interactive — a playful feature that resonates with younger consumers and reinforces the product’s positioning as a cool, modern choice.
