Real Saucy is an Asian fusion condiment brand that exists at the intersection of cultural storytelling and bold design. Born from my experience as an Asian American, the project explores identity through flavor—blending the best of Asian and Western influences to create something both familiar and excitingly new.
As a designer, I’m fascinated by how design connects with culture and history. Real Saucy became a physical manifestation of my own cultural duality, mixing traditional Asian flavor profiles with globally recognized condiments. This approach creates a novel yet approachable experience that encourages adventurous eating while introducing Asian flavor profiles to a wider audience.
Targeting Americans aged 18–28 who are open to culinary exploration, Real Saucy’s personality is bold, playful, and unapologetically colorful. The visual identity reflects a brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously—inviting consumers to embrace curiosity over caution.
The logo development process involved extensive iteration, balancing distinctiveness with trustworthiness. Early explorations leaned too heavily into decorative “sauciness,” compromising readability and brand credibility. The final wordmark achieves the perfect equilibrium—playful enough to stand out on shelf, refined enough to instill consumer confidence.
The packaging design features four strategic visual hierarchies: the distinctive logo, vibrant color-blocked flavor names with staggered rectangles, star-shaped ingredient callouts, and descriptive taglines. This layered approach accommodates different shopping behaviors, from quick shelf scanning to careful label reading. Typography balances whimsy (Gumball) with dependability (Knockout, Maison Neue), while the color palette—red for Banana Ketchup, green for Wasabi Mayo, orange for Kimchi Aioli—creates shelf impact while hinting at the product inside.
The side labels maintain visual unity while providing ingredient transparency and cultural context, explaining how different culinary traditions meet. Social media extensions showcase saucy product photography and graphic content that reinforce the brand’s playful, approachable spirit across touchpoints.
Real Saucy demonstrates how thoughtful design can bridge cultures, spark curiosity, and make flavor exploration irresistibly inviting.
