The Balkon is an online urban theatre festival that turns city’s balconies into theatre stages and courtyards into odiums. The festival was conceived a series of street performances. The festival locations were balconies of both modern buildings and historic mansions.
The Balkon team makes short films in which famous actors recite poetry and prose. The festival unites various famous theatre schools, art laboratories and studios. Sometimes famous music bands are involved in the soundtrack creation.
The balcony becomes an artistic platform that unites the theatre stage, the tribune and the private space of a human being.
The theatre outside the four walls takes on a new visualization. The main innovation of the festival is the stage. Until recently, no one considered the balcony as a potential theatre stage or platform.
The performance takes place on one of the city’s balconies, and the viewer watches what is happening in real time. Mini-performances are accompanied by a series of publications dedicated to the theatre and historical milestones in the development of the theatre.
In total four seasons already have been released and forty films have been shot.
The idea of the project appeared long before the lockdown, but it fully resonated with the ideas of self-expression in a limited space, corresponded to the current agenda, and even acquired new cultural meanings, both online and offline.
We have developed the visual identity for the first, third and fourth seasons of the festival.
