Awake Studio Showing a Shotographer’s Work in a Show-Stopping Way

Awake Studio Showing a Shotographer’s Work in a Show-Stopping Way

Maya has built an impressive client roster over the last decade, earning bookings from some of the best names in the industry. She draws upon her depth of knowledge in shooting food, products, and people to create vibrant images that consistently resonate with the senses. With a depth of expertise in lighting, composition, and design techniques, Maya creates dynamic narratives, textures, and moods that go beyond the expected. She is also known for her innovative motion work, creating tantalizing visions of product, connecting audiences to food and lifestyle brands through authentic, vibrant storytelling.

Maya wanted to create a promo that highlighted the diversity of her work in as impactful a manner as possible. Art Director and Marketing Managers have promos crossing their desk on the daily and this piece needed to make an impact. The solution was to create a double-booklet format – with one booklet highlighting the more moody work while the complementary book showcased the lighter and more golden-toned photography. This elongated format allowed us to create double spreads which could be mixed and matched as the recipient flipped through booklets.

The piece was given little details worthy of a show-stopping piece, such as the gold foil typography on the cover, the soft-touch coating on the cover and the gold staples which highlighted the type treatment.

The cover immediately shows off the concept of duality by deftly pairing two seemingly unrelated images – a hammock along with, yes, a piece of kale. The layout system utilized a playful grid in order for each page to stand out on its own (and to have the ability to “mix-and-match” with the spreads from the opposite book).

The final product hit the mark with many follow-ups from art directors and agencies who wanted to know more about Maya’s practice. Not an easy task trying to convert a “seen it all” demographic. As a result of the success of this piece, we’re in the works to create a follow-up piece to continue the momentum of this first communications. Strike while the iron is hot, they say!
