Art Pride Creates Tiger Day Festival Identity Through a Dynamic Modular Tiger System

Tiger Day festival in Vladivostok

For 27 years, the “Tiger Day” festival has been held in Vladivostok, bringing together residents of Primorye and visitors from across the country. On this day, the city fills with people, color, and a unique atmosphere: everyone takes to the streets to express their love for the region’s symbol — the Amur tiger. Parades, concerts, and public celebrations transform Vladivostok into a vibrant space of shared joy, where urban life and wildlife symbolism merge into a single cultural experience.

Despite its scale and popularity, the festival had long lacked a distinct visual identity — a face that could help tell its story beyond the region, attract new visitors, and make the event more recognizable within both local and international contexts. The absence of a unified visual system limited its potential as a strong territorial and cultural brand.

We set out to change that by giving the festival a face. It became the tiger’s face — a bold and expressive symbol. But not just one: many. Since each face is constructed from a flexible modular system, it allows for countless unique combinations. Every composition is different, echoing the individuality of real tigers in the wild. Variations in shapes, colors, and expressions reflect the diversity of the festival itself and the people who participate in it.

Moreover, every visitor can become a co-creator of this identity. Through an interactive digital platform, participants are invited to design their own tiger face — personal, distinctive, and alive. This transforms the identity into an open and evolving system, where authorship is shared and continuously renewed.

In this way, the festival becomes not a single image, but a collective portrait made up of thousands of voices. The identity grows organically with each new participant, strengthening the sense of belonging and connection to place. It reinforces local identity while making it accessible to a broader audience, turning “Tiger Day” into a recognizable and scalable cultural event that bridges tradition, community, and contemporary design.
