Australian producer, Accolade wines, tasked Chile and Barcelona based creative agency, DAf with creating new label designs for their Chilean-made wine range, Anakena, while also developing new storytelling and naming.
Anakena’s roots are deeply connected to indigenous Chilean communities, and grow in a volcanic terroir. These two characteristics give the wine a unique, powerful sense of origin and the brand a rich visual tapestry to explore.
DAf focused on these characteristics, designing new labels that lived up to Anakena’s magmatic origin, whilst refining the wine’s brand story. Each bottle in the range is also connected by a jagged silhouette of the Andes Mountains which runs along their lower half, joining each variety with a distinctly Chilean skyline.
For Anakena’s hero product, Birdman, a red and gold color palette evocative of lava was used under layers of bright red rongorongo glyphs from Easter Island. These glyphs communicate a mysterious power as their exact meaning is unknown to this day. The name Birdman itself originates from a legendary, death-defying contest on this island.
The design for Nuna, a name which comes from the Quechua word for spirit, goes much darker, bringing in a black that’s reminiscent of igneous stone underneath a layer of bright red, lightning-like bolts of energy.
The new designs, naming, creative and storytelling were all brought together under the claim “Wine from Within”. A line which references the cultural importance, history and terroir of the wine.
