A Language-Driven Identity Repositioning For A Global Powerhouse In Online Luxury Retail

FirstDibs is a luxury retailer that offers an exquisite assortment of antique furniture, art, fashion, industrial products, and decor. It stands out in the marketplace for its exceptional curation and the rich narratives behind its offerings. Since the year 2000, it has seamlessly captured the magic of Paris flea markets, connecting those seeking the most beautiful things on earth with highly coveted sellers and makers.

FirstDibs already possessed a well-established identity that it was applying successfully. However, the motto of presenting the most beautiful things on earth wasn’t represented prominently. And that didn’t sit right with me. There was a depth and variety to the quality and premium nature of the objects that were advertised on the auction house’s site. I also wanted to simplify the brand’s presentation; and therefore highlight the quality of the products and their physical attributes. To better emphasize this, I reframed the strategy around the brand’s tagline: Beautiful Things. A delicate yet regal serif, generous negative space, and a flexible color palette worked together to highlight the objects/pieces being presented to the customer. Additionally, the shortened tagline also lends itself to a variable identity format that can be customized for the objects being showcased. This flexibility also extends across presentation formats in print, digital, and social media applications.
