Like many parents raising bilingual kids, Jessenia and Greg Gayle found themselves stuck between A for Apple and “y cómo se dice manzana?” So they did what any creative, inspired parents would do: they turned to the drawing board and created their own solution.
From that spark, Mighty Big Love was born. A bilingual brand created by a husband and wife duo blending their Latino and Caribbean roots, design background, and real-life parenting to celebrate culture, confidence and play.
Raising two bilingual kids in a Spanish-speaking home, Jessenia and Greg quickly realized that most early learning toys simply didn’t reflect families like theirs. “We noticed that a lot of bilingual toys felt like translations were an afterthought,” says Jessenia. “They didn’t flow naturally, and they definitely didn’t feel like us.”
The lightbulb moment came from something as simple as the alphabet. “Z is for Zebra, but in Spanish, that’s cebra,” explains Jessenia. “When you switch the letters around, it gets confusing for little ones and honestly, for us too.”
And this realization led to their first product: El Board, a beautifully crafted wooden alphabet puzzle designed to make bilingual learning intuitive and seamless. Each word from A to Z was thoughtfully chosen to use the same first letter to help connect across both English and Spanish without creating confusion for early learners.
But for Jessenia and Greg, solving the language challenge wasn’t enough, the design had to feel just as intentional. Every illustration on El Board was created from scratch in a clean, linear form that feels simple, modern and easy for young minds to process. The consistent line work and cohesive visual system were thoughtfully developed to keep the aesthetic unified while making each image instantly recognizable for early learners.
The typography was also designed entirely by Greg. Rather than choosing an existing font, the couple created a bespoke typeface that feels playful yet bold, full of personality, warmth and confidence. The letterforms are expressive without being overwhelming, striking a balance between fun and clarity so children can focus on learning while still feeling inspired by what they see.
“Every detail, from the illustrations to the type, was intentionally crafted to feel modern, authentic, and reflective of homes like ours,” says Greg. “We wanted something that looked like it belonged to today’s multicultural families.”
More than toys, Mighty Big Love is here to redefine what bilingual play looks like for the next generation. It’s about creating moments that spark curiosity, confidence, pride and making culture part of the conversation from day one.
