A Territorial Beer Packaging Rooted in Heritage
Bordelago is a craft brewery located in the Lake District of southern Chile, at the foot of the Osorno Volcano. Deeply rooted in a region shaped by German colonization and dramatic natural landscapes, the brand required a packaging system capable of expressing both territorial identity and brewing heritage while standing out in a competitive craft beer market.
The core challenge was to create a cohesive visual structure for a growing portfolio of beer varieties without losing individual character. The solution was the development of a modular packaging system built on a strong horizontal compositional band that anchors the brand name, while allowing each variety to feature a bespoke illustration inspired by local fauna, flora, historical figures, and regional narratives.
Each beer tells a story. From the Patagonian fox and the black woodpecker to tributes such as Don Alfredo and Doña Rosa, the illustrations function as narrative devices that reinforce authenticity and emotional depth. The color palette was carefully assigned to ensure clear differentiation between varieties while maintaining overall system consistency across both cans and bottles.
The project balances structure and flexibility. The fixed layout guarantees shelf recognition and scalability, while the illustrated foreground allows expressive storytelling. The system was initially developed for cans and later adapted seamlessly to glass bottles, ensuring visual coherence across formats and sales channels.
Beyond aesthetics, the packaging strengthens Bordelago’s positioning as a brewery that honors its territory and family legacy. By merging German brewing tradition with Chilean landscape symbolism, the identity communicates craftsmanship, resilience, and cultural pride.
The result is a visually unified yet narratively rich packaging system that elevates brand perception and supports long-term portfolio expansion, positioning Bordelago as a distinctive voice within the Latin American craft beer market.
