El Hallazgo by Sutil. When the design tells a story.
There are labels that do more than dress a bottle; they transform it into a narrative object. El Hallazgo was conceived from that intention. It is not merely a decorative graphic element, but a layered experience that unfolds gradually—like a careful excavation inviting us to uncover what lies hidden beneath the surface. The act of looking becomes part of the ritual.
The composition is built around the technique of overlapping, reinterpreted here as an archaeological metaphor. A sheet of white cotton paper—rough, tactile, almost mineral in character—rests over a metallic background that subtly shimmers beneath, catching the light with quiet restraint. At first glance, the surface appears intact, calm and composed, yet it holds an inner tension. Three deliberate chips disrupt that stillness, revealing a golden-bronze image below: Athena advancing in her chariot, guided by Nike, emerging like a relic reclaimed from time.
The full scene is never revealed. Only fragments come into view: a wheel suggesting motion, a firmly planted foot, a suspended fold of fabric hinting at movement beyond the frame. It feels as though centuries have worn away the outer layer, allowing us to glimpse an ancient relief concealed beneath successive strata of material and history.
This tension between the visible and the implied forms the conceptual core of the project. Nothing is disclosed at once. The label calls for proximity and attentive observation, inviting the viewer to reconstruct the missing narrative. Absence becomes presence; the observer becomes an active participant.
Kenneth Koch once wrote that in a poem one line can conceal another. Here, a surface conceals a myth. A label holds a scene. A wine carries a story.
El Hallazgo ultimately resides not only in what is seen, but in what is sensed—what is completed through imagination, memory, and desire.
