TU SAC MA NIEN is a visual series developed from a simple constraint: one equine form, repeated and held constant throughout the project. Instead of changing the pose or structure, the exploration focuses on how energy can shift through color, material, and internal rhythm. The horse becomes a vessel rather than a subject — used to carry different states of force as they move from concealment to emergence, from intensity to refinement.
The series unfolds through four distinct states. Some are quiet and restrained, where energy feels compressed and unresolved. Others open outward, allowing growth, movement, and traces of motion to surface. There are moments of pressure and release, followed by clarity and balance, where excess is stripped away and structure remains. These states are not meant to be read as a narrative in time, but as conditions that can exist, overlap, and repeat within a continuous cycle.
Culturally, the project draws from Vietnamese symbolism associated with the Year of the Horse, but avoids literal representation or festive imagery. Instead, traditional references are abstracted into color systems, textures, and spatial tension. The intention is not to illustrate culture, but to translate its underlying logic into a contemporary visual language that feels restrained, physical, and intentional.
TU SAC MA NIEN treats color as energy, form as structure, and repetition as a way to observe change. By limiting variation on the surface, the project allows subtler shifts to become visible — how balance is found, lost, and reassembled. What remains is not a single image, but a system of states, ready to reset and move forward again.
