Pedro Vareta Studio Creates Cachimbada: A Tribute Wine Shaped by Generosity, Memory and the Smoke of a Man’s Pipe

Cachimbada is a white wine aged in wood, created as a deeply personal tribute from a son to his father — a man remembered not only for who he was, but for how he was with others. Generous by nature, close to people, present in small gestures and everyday rituals, he was rarely seen without his pipe. More than an object, it was part of his identity, a constant companion to moments of pause, conversation and reflection.

In Portuguese, the word pipa carries a beautiful dual meaning: it refers both to a wine cask and to the bowl of a pipe. This linguistic coincidence becomes the conceptual core of Cachimbada’s packaging. Here, the wine cask transforms into the father’s pipe, merging wine and memory into a single symbolic gesture. From this pipe, a delicate trail of smoke gently emerges, wrapping itself around the bottle as if protecting it.

This trail of smoke is not literal — it is emotional. It becomes a metaphor for the stories told, the silences shared, the laughter, the advice and the moments that linger long after they are lived. Like smoke, these memories are intangible yet persistent, light yet impossible to ignore. They remain suspended in time, softly present.

The packaging invites interpretation. To some, it is simply an elegant and poetic image. But for those who knew the father, the message is immediate and unmistakable. It is recognition rather than explanation.

In Portuguese, Cachimbada does not refer only to the act of smoking a pipe. It evokes the shared moments that surround it — conversation, companionship, presence. Moments without haste. Moments that gain meaning precisely because they are shared. That is why, like this wine, companionship, friendship and family should never be enjoyed in moderation.

More than a wine, Cachimbada is a vessel for remembrance. A tribute shaped by generosity, memory and a man’s pipe — and by everything that continues to drift, quietly, long after the smoke has faded.
