Yuri Gagarin is the great Russian astronaut who has become the face of the new space age. His smile became a reference point for people, courage a reason for development.

The exhibition is devoted to the biography of the astronaut, the path of his formation. Difficult childhood during the war, meeting with his future wife and the birth of two daughters, difficult selection for the pilot’s place and the flight itself, the feeling of an astronaut, Earth. His path can be described with the phrase: “Through thorns to the stars” (“Per aspera ad astra”).

The basis of the identity was the proprietary font, which was specially designed for this project. It is built on a common diagonal as a sign of dedication to the stars, a path only forward and development. The font also refers to a specific time period, namely the 60s of the year (the flight was made on April 12, 1961 on the Vostok-1 ship). His role in identity is considered key, it was he who laid the foundation for the rest of the techniques within the project.

Identity is built on a combination of rigor and kindness, human history and the history of a complex space sphere. The pattern, which consists of individual font characters, represents the very “thorns” through which the astronaut made his way to the stars, space and new life. Additional typography is also an important detail. It works with displacement, thereby repeating the diagonal guide embedded in the font. Photos adapt to the general style and lose a small piece under the influence of the same diagonal line. The whole project is permeated with the aesthetics of space, the 60s in the USSR and man’s aspirations for a new world of cosmic achievements.
