Sivolenko Design Introduces Makimono as a Minimal and Premium Sushi Packaging Concept

Sivolenko Design Introduces Makimono as a Minimal and Premium Sushi Packaging Concept

I received a design for a high-quality sushi packaging to order, which would be of premium quality. It was necessary to think through every detail, starting with the name. After much research, I chose the name MAKIMONO, which is a Japanese word and translates to rolled object. After choosing the name, my thoughts were constantly revolving around the sushi mat and I wanted to get a design in which I would definitely use a detail that would resemble a sushi mat. After much thought, I asked myself, “Why not just a sushi mat?” I thought and got to work. I had clearly decided that the design should be minimalistic, the emphasis should be on the sushi mat itself and there should be no unnecessary details. I got a box in the form of a rolled mat, in which the sushi would be beautifully arranged, and the chopsticks for eating sushi would be fixed on the box. But I hadn’t thought about how people would take the sushi out of the box without damaging it. I also had to find a solution to this problem, and I think I found the perfect solution. Before putting it in the box, the sushi would be wrapped in specially treated paper, and only then would they be put in the box. In addition, the paper would have a small protruding part with the inscription PULL, from which you can grab it and pull the sushi out of the box without damaging it. It was time for the name, and for this I chose a bold font, which would be engraved on thick, black cardboard attached to the box. Bold words are better printed when embossing. This way, you can touch the name, which will create a pleasant feeling in the buyer. To complement the name and the general idea, I also chose the slogan “Craft begins with the mat”, which included the whole meaning that in the process of making sushi everything starts with the sushi mat. The result was a premium, aesthetically pleasing design that looked very attractive and impressive. Sushi in these types of boxes would also be great for taking as a nice gift or as a treat when visiting guests.
