The Carnival Tampico Miramar 2025 marked a turning point for one of the most important public celebrations in southern Tamaulipas. For the first time, the carnival was conceived as a conurbated event, uniting the cities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira into a single regional celebration that would unfold across three cities, one day at a time. This shift demanded more than visual cohesion—it required a shared cultural identity capable of representing distinct territories without diluting their individuality.
Designed by El Catrín for the Government of the State of Tamaulipas, the visual identity was created entirely from scratch and envisioned as a long-term system for future editions. Early research revealed a recurring issue in previous years: the carnival’s image was visually generic. Without the city name, it could belong almost anywhere. Color choices often aligned more with political cycles than with the cultural and festive spirit of the region itself.
The new identity embraces local meaning through a flexible graphic system. Supporting elements such as an irregular star—inspired by Huasteca cultural symbols—and an abstract palm reference the shared landscape of the three cities, where palm-lined boulevards frame the carnival routes. Typography was selected not only for its festive character but for its adaptability, allowing expressive variations and integrations within the system.
At the heart of the identity lies a bold symbolic decision: three characters representing each city. Tampico is embodied by a juancho (local crocodile), Altamira by the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, and Ciudad Madero by a Martian—a playful nod to its popular cultural mythos. Together, these figures form an unmistakable visual narrative that celebrates local pride with humor and authenticity.
Animated graphics and large-scale applications brought the system to life across billboards, bridges, public transport, and digital screens, reinforcing the idea that this carnival belongs to everyone. More than an event identity, Carnaval Tampico Miramar 2025 became a cultural statement: three cities, one region, and one shared celebration.
