Estúdio Capim Designs ÓST as a Contemporary Candle Brand Rooted in Sensory and Spatial Experience

This project develops the ÓST brand, a company from Vitória, Brazil founded by Laila and Jana and dedicated to design candles. The scope includes naming, strategy, visual identity, product design, packaging, signage, and digital applications. The collections are original and produced in limited editions, using high-quality materials and finishes. The innovation lies in treating the candle as a design object with aesthetic and sensorial impact, elevating the category with its own language and coherence between brand and product.

Óst in Portuguese means “host,” speaking to the use of candles for hospitality and also, perhaps, a nod to the word’s alternate meaning as a vessel holding a spirit. ÓST is also an acronym for Observar, Sentir, and Transformar, which mean “observe,” “feel,” and “transform” in Portuguese—notions that embody how the brand hopes its customers experience their product.

Evoking a cross between mid-20th-century computer controls and esoteric motifs like eyes and stars, the chunky, ephemeral decor strikes a past-meets-present note.

The idea was to transform the candle into a design object capable of provoking new readings of space—an invitation to “look again.” The challenge was to launch a brand from scratch in a saturated landscape. The solution lay in a unified system that connects naming, visual guidelines, collection architecture, packaging, and the retail experience. Originality and consistency work together: forms, materials, and language converge into a recognizable whole that communicates authorship and purpose without relying on trends.
