Blossom is a self-initiated branding project for a small flower shop that operates without a permanent storefront, selling flowers directly along the streets of New York City. The project positions Blossom as a city-grown flower shop, offering moments of nature and comfort to urban dwellers surrounded by concrete and steel.
The branding highlights illustration as its central visual language. Bouquet decoration cards were created as primary design touchpoints, each featuring flat-style illustrations with smooth gradient colors. These visuals merge the rigid structures of city architecture with the organic forms of flowers: vases are reimagined as tall buildings, while blossoms grow freely from their tops, symbolizing vitality emerging within the dense metropolitan environment. Windows and structural details function as playful graphic devices, blending the familiar cityscape with natural expression.
The choice of flat illustration was deliberate, emphasizing clarity, approachability, and adaptability across formats. Gradients are applied to petals and leaves to create depth and vibrancy, evoking the subtle transitions of light and the rich hues of real flowers. Each species carries a distinct palette, ensuring recognition while building a cohesive system. The contrast between muted architectural tones and vibrant blossoms reinforces the concept of nature flourishing amid the city.
This illustrative system expands beyond the bouquet cards to inform the wider branding identity. Posters and digital assets adopt the same design language, transforming the visuals into bold, eye-catching compositions that stand out within New York’s crowded streetscape. Online, the illustration style adapts seamlessly into social media content, creating continuity between physical and digital touchpoints.
Blossom demonstrates how thoughtful illustration and branding can transform a modest, street-based flower shop into an identity that feels distinctive, approachable, and emotionally resonant. By weaving together urban geometry and natural beauty, the project elevates the simple act of buying flowers into an imaginative and memorable experience.
