Anna Barnett Creates Kinsa, a Mobile App Focused on Intentional and Relevant Event Discovery

Anna Barnett Creates Kinsa, a Mobile App Focused on Intentional and Relevant Event Discovery

CHALLENGE
For young adults trying to find events and build community, the search experience is scattered and unreliable. People often discover events on Instagram, but only if the algorithm happens to surface them at the right time. Relevant flyers get buried under unrelated posts, ads, and noise, so users end up digging through Stories and feeds hoping to stumble on something good. Platforms like Meetup are not much better. They cast a wide net, surfacing events that feel generic, too broad, or not tailored to the interests and lifestyle of young adults. Nothing feels curated or personal. As a result, event discovery becomes exhausting rather than exciting. People miss events they would have loved, attend ones that feel off, or give up searching entirely. Instead of feeling more connected to their communities, many end up feeling even more isolated.

SOLUTION
Kinsa is a mobile app designed to make event discovery feel curated, intentional, and genuinely useful. Created for people aged 20 to 35, the platform recommends events based on what users actually care about: their interests, values, and desired vibe. A quick onboarding flow captures these preferences from the start, allowing the experience to feel personal right away. A smart tagging and filtering system makes it easy to sort by vibe, distance, date, interests, and more, helping users quickly identify events that feel aligned.

Kinsa’s event pages adopt Instagram’s 9:16 format so event creators can upload the exact flyers they already design for social media. This keeps the workflow simple and eliminates the need to create separate assets. When an event sparks interest, it is added directly to the in-app calendar, giving users a clear view of their week at a glance.

Light social features support connection without overwhelming the experience. Customizable profiles let people share only what they want, and messaging makes coordinating plans simple. With a friendly, modern, and intentional brand, Kinsa positions itself as the cooler, more curated alternative to Facebook Events and Meetup. It gives young adults an event discovery tool built for relevance, alignment, and real connection.
