The Sky Chapter is the second release within Lark’s Wilderness Collection, a rare series of single cask expressions that explore Tasmania through its defining natural worlds. This chapter looks to the island’s open air and the shifting weather systems that shape both the liquid and its design. It draws on movement, clarity and the dramatic skies that roll across Tasmania’s atmosphere.
Two single cask releases form the foundation of the chapter. The Angels Cask matured in a tiny 100 litre muscat cask stored in one of Lark’s earliest bond houses. Tasmania’s super climate created constant variation in temperature, humidity and evaporation, allowing the whisky to develop under conditions driven almost entirely by air. King Island Rain continues this idea through water provenance. The spirit is cut with rainfall collected on King Island’s remote western edge, recognised as some of the cleanest and brightest water in the world, bringing a natural sense of lift into the expression.
The packaging carries this idea of elevation. Each bottle features a bespoke illustration created specifically for the chapter, capturing Tasmania’s weather patterns, shifting skies and the wild atmospheric character of the island. The artwork also heroes key local landmarks tied to each release, including the Pontville Distillery for The Angels Cask and the King Island lighthouse for King Island Rain. The illustration echoes the layered movement found in Tasmanian cloud formations and storm fronts, creating a visual language that feels open, dynamic and true to the energy of the sky. The palette is taken directly from the region’s changing conditions, moving from early morning blues to washed greys and the deeper tones that gather as weather builds.
The illustration is applied directly to the glass, allowing a controlled mix of colour and gold foil to wrap across the front, sides and back. When the releases are placed side by side, the artwork aligns to form a wider landscape of the island’s climate, expanding the story of the chapter through a broader skyscape.
Structural elements are kept deliberately minimal so the illustration can remain central. Typography is quiet, colour is spare and each bottle is individually numbered to highlight the rarity of these single cask expressions.
As the second chapter of the Wilderness Collection, Sky presents a calm yet dramatic interpretation of Tasmania’s atmosphere, bringing its weather, openness and movement into a clear and cohesive visual expression.
