Osland has been breeding and developing trout for many years — since 1963 — and today preserves Norway’s oldest trout broodstock.

In aquaculture, the secret lies within the roe. But an egg is not just an egg. The very DNA determines whether a fish will grow smoothly, become strong, and taste great.

Behind every batch of Osland trout roe lies dedicated breeding work. Today, we operate two distinct strains — the Osland strain and the Ilsvaag strain — both of which are among Norway’s oldest and most proven cells of pedigree broodstock.

Not All Fish Are Created Equal

Osland cultivates and preserves two of Norway’s pedigree broodstock trout strains. A fish is not just a fish. What makes ours unique is continuous innovation of the gene pool — resulting in distinct traits, superior robustness, and refined taste. A roe is not simply a roe — it is 60 years of innovation.

Form Within
In the tiniest unit of DNA lies the detail of what’s to come: how the fish will swim, how large it will grow, how it will emerge in texture and taste. All of this is hidden in the genes—and can be tailored to suit your farm better.
One bad egg may ruin a batch. One good egg may make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.

It’s not only the genes that determine a fish’s destiny. Just as with people, growth is the result of heritage and environment. We raise our fish in the crisp, oxygen-rich waters of the Sognefjord.

We are proud to manage the entire value chain — from roe to fish — locally. This benefits both the fish and the local community, adding value and activating the region.

Form the Heritage
A legacy means little unless it creates a legacy to be proud of.
Since 1963, Osland has pioneered aquaculture and developed the Norwegian fjord trout to ‘best of breed’. Through careful selective breeding, we have cultivated fish with exceptional attributes. Not all fish are created equal — we focus on the best.

Breed to Feed
A small roe may be the start of something truly big. A broodstock with strong genes and superior guidance can ripple out and positively impact any community. As a sustainable broodstock supplier, we strive to make the greatest possible difference — improving livelihoods and people’s lives. We adhere to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and believe our product can truly make a difference.

Identity: Where Form Becomes Brand
Osland’s visual identity is shaped by the circular form — the roe, the DNA coil, the fish’s silhouette, and the initial O. These elements merge into a system built around origin, evolution, and transformation.

The colour palette is anchored in clear trout-pink and roe-red, contrasted by the cold blue tones of the sea surrounding the company. The photography and colour grading amplify this duality — the warm reds against the cool marine blues — expressing the tension between biology and environment.

Circular shapes recur throughout the graphic system, echoing both the micro-world of the roe and the macro-world of the pens. Micro and macro, united visually.

Form as a Conceptual Device
The slogan and copy system play on the idea of adjusting DNA — shifting origins to create something new. By moving a single letter, “From” becomes Form:

From the Origin → Form the Origin
From Within → Form Within
From the Fjords → Form the Fjords

A subtle change that appears almost like a typo — yet is fully intentional. It symbolises the core of Osland’s work:

What we come from can be transformed.
Heritage can evolve.
Life can take new form.

This linguistic shift mirrors the evolution of the trout itself — a nod to selective breeding, controlled development, and the power of shaping the future without abandoning the past.
