Student Gizelle Farinas Designs Raibu to Streamline Live Music Discovery With Social-First UX

OVERVIEW
Raibu, meaning “live music” in Japanese, is a conceptual mobile app designed to transform how users discover and attend live music events. It’s roughly a blend of Dice’s streamlined ticketing and Bandsintown’s personalized event discovery, with a focus on highlighting niche and underground artists. Most existing platforms often have clunky UX and UI and don’t highlight lesser known artists. Raibu solves these issues by offering curated event listings, intuitive search and filters, personalized recommendations, and integrated social features.

RESEARCH & INSIGHTS
• UX research and interviews guided the design. Key insights included:

• Event discovery is fragmented and often relational

• Ticket purchasing can feel stressful and unfair

• Hidden fees reduce trust and accessibility

• Social features are memorable and desired

These findings informed two personas: Persona 1 is a budget-conscious enthusiast seeking a centralized way to find niche shows. Persona 2 is a newly relocated A&R professional exploring authentic, community-driven events. The personas guided navigation, recommendation logic, and social features.

DESIGN & UI
Raibu’s cohesive design system ensures consistency across typography, color, iconography, and UI components. Black and electric green evoke nightlife energy, while the fonts TWK Everett, Azeret Mono, and GT America Extended Bold create a bold, edgy aesthetic. Card-based event layouts, intuitive filtersand clear call-to-actions ensure usability and clarity from discovery to ticket purchase.

• Quick onboarding with optional streaming-account integration for personalized recommendations

• Transparent pricing and digital tickets compatible with digital wallets  (e.g. Apple Wallet)

• Fast checkout with options such as Apple Pay

• Social features to add friends, view their event interests, and coordinate plans

• Advanced filters for location, date, price, and venue

• Notifications for recommended shows, new events, and low-ticket alerts

PURPOSE & IMPACT
Raibu simplifies live music discovery, reduces ticketing friction, and strengthens social connections. Thoughtful UX research, a cohesive design system, and intentional UI choices deliver a platform that enhances the cultural and entertainment experience for fans and emerging artists alike.
