Estúdio Lippi Captures the Essence of Italian Flavor in the Identity of Fornello

Fornello is a restaurant and pizzeria that first opened its doors in 1987, in the backyard of the talented pizzaiolo and chef Florindo Furiosi, located in the charming heart of Florence. With over 30 years dedicated to the culinary arts, Florindo has created a space where tradition meets authenticity, celebrating the true essence of Italian cuisine.

Fornello’s visual identity blends artisanal craftsmanship with minimalism. The logo, designed with a handwritten typeface, reflects the care and attention of something made by hand—just like every dish served from the kitchen. Illustrations with asymmetrical strokes, reminiscent of pencil or chalk, further enhance this aesthetic, fostering a genuine connection to the artisanal and authentic.

The color palette, composed of off-white and red, symbolizes simplicity and the most iconic element of Italian cuisine: tomato sauce. The entire visual language is inspired by a vintage style, transporting guests to an era where flavor, dedication, and tradition were the most valuable ingredients in the kitchen—and they remain the cornerstone of Fornello to this day.

The name Fornello, which means ‘little oven’ in Italian, was chosen to represent the essence of the restaurant and pizzeria, referring to the oven as the heart of Italian cuisine. The name symbolizes the tradition and care that have accompanied every dish prepared by the restaurant since 1987.

This essence is reinforced by the communication, which uses modern Swiss typography, creating a balance between tradition and modernity that gives the brand a strong and timeless identity. In addition, Fornello’s identity recalls classic elements, such as the checkered pattern of Italian tablecloths, bringing nostalgia and a period aesthetic that reinforces its authenticity.

All the elements have been carefully planned to tell the story of a restaurant that celebrates its Italian roots, while dialoguing with contemporaneity, preserving the essence of taste and tradition in every visual and gastronomic aspect.
