Fingers – Energo University: 50 Years of Powering Knowledge

Fingers – Energo University: 50 Years of Powering Knowledge

What was the challenge?

Energo University is one of the leading technical universities in Qazaqstan, founded in 1975. It trains specialists in energy, engineering, and technology, making a significant contribution to the development of the country’s infrastructure and industry. Its graduates hold key positions in the energy sector of Qazaqstan and beyond. For its 50th anniversary, the university needed a unique and memorable visual concept that would highlight the importance of this milestone, reflect its history and contribution to education, and at the same time communicate its modern development and vision for the future. The task was also to evoke positive emotions among students and visitors, encouraging them toward learning, sports, and self-development. In addition, the project required the creation of infographics and wayfinding for the academic building, as well as the development of a museum space that would bring together the university’s historical legacy, achievements, and contemporary outlook.

What was the solution?

We developed a jubilee logo and a comprehensive visual communication system that transformed the entire ground floor of the university, its staircases, and key auditoriums. Infographics on the walls and staircases illustrate the university’s milestones and the contributions of its founders, while a partial wayfinding system simplifies navigation within the academic buildings. Special attention was given to the auditorium named after the first rector, emphasizing its historical and symbolic significance.

An interactive museum concept was created with thematic zones such as History and Achievements, allowing visitors to explore the university’s journey from its foundation to the present. A custom-designed map of Qazaqstan showcases the distribution of alumni, major projects, and the university’s influence across the regions. Visitors can also interact with a digital interface — available on a tablet and screen — to discover facts, dates, and milestones from the university’s archives. To ensure authenticity, the team delved deeply into historical materials, uncovering key documents and photographs of past rectors, which were digitized and reimagined in a contemporary aesthetic.

What was the effect?

The new visual environment became the symbol of the 50th anniversary and strengthened the university’s image as a leading educational institution. The infographics and museum space inspire both students and faculty, instilling pride in belonging to the university and in its role in the development of Kazakhstan. The wayfinding made the campus more accessible, while the alumni map emphasized its nationwide significance. Through the interactive interface, the archives came to life and became accessible to everyone, and the digital reconstruction of photographs and historical materials created a bridge between the past and the future. The project went beyond anniversary decoration, evolving into a lasting system of visual identity that supports the university’s long-term positioning.
