Rashid Rahnama Brings Cultural Depth And Global Appeal To Mama Cacao Collective

The Mama Cacao Collective is more than a brand… it’s a movement rooted in care, community, and cacao. Founded by Juliet Davey and Jessica Abiss, both deeply connected to the land and the women who cultivate it, the collective exists to elevate and celebrate female cacao farmers across Costa Rica and beyond. As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, its mission is grounded in ethical sourcing, regenerative agriculture, and storytelling that honours the hands behind the harvest.

In designing the brand identity, I focused on creating a logotype that embodies the soul of cacao and the women who grow it. The word “MAMA” stands as a symbol of nurturing strength, resilience, and ancestral wisdom. Its form is bold yet organic, echoing the curves of cacao pods and the softness of soil. The colour palette draws directly from the cacao landscape — rich earthy browns, warm terracotta, and golden cacao seeds… evoking the lush environments where cacao is grown and the warmth of the communities who tend to it.

This identity is not just visual; it’s cultural. Every detail was considered to retain the spirit of origin — from the typographic rhythm that hints at hand-crafted authenticity, to the subtle imperfections that mirror the beauty of nature and human touch. The logotype is designed to feel grounded and global, able to live on packaging, digital platforms, and community spaces with equal impact.

The project was deeply personal, reflecting my respect for the women behind the cacao and the stories they carry. I wanted the design to feel like it belonged to them… not imposed, but grown from the same soil. It’s a tribute to their strength, their craft, and their connection to the land. Through this identity, Mama Cacao becomes not just a name, but a visual anthem for empowerment, sustainability, and soulful storytelling.
