Vítor Scarpato – Scarpato Wine (Self Published)

” From the third generation of Italian immigrants in Brazil, Valentim Scarpato spent years crushing grapes during his childhood to help his grandfather in wine production. After 50 years he decided to continue the family tradition. As soon as he retired from the blacksmith profession in 1998, he began to produce craft wine to pass the time. Valentim used to produce 2,000 bottles per season, which were sold only to his friends.

Today at the age of 94, he can’t help to produce anymore. But with the knowledge over the years, his sons are keeping the family tradition. To this special edition of only 600 bottles, I was asked to translate the history on the label without look like an old or historic wine.

The design challenge of the project was to convey the whole story behind the wine using low-cost materials. To achieve that goal I used digital print on textured paper, and to give a handmade look and feel I used a stamp with the year of beginning the fabrication with the blacksmith’s icon. To seal the bottles was used red wax, which gives a unique and special look to each packaging.”
