Jumping back into the dating world recently (yes, the endless swipes, awkward texts, and all that jazz) gave me a fresh perspective and sparked an idea. What if I could capture that thrilling mix of excitement, mystery, and awkwardness in a cocktail?
That’s how Blind Date was born. It’s a concept brand I designed at Work and Company that plays on the unpredictability of dating and the fact that the cocktails are sweetened with natural date sugar. Not your everyday sugar. Date sugar isn’t just a clever ingredient. It adds a richer, deeper caramel flavor and a smoother energy boost without the dreaded sugar crash. It felt like the perfect metaphor for dating: a little sweet, a little surprising, and definitely worth the risk.
Design-wise, I wanted to blend nostalgia with modern style. So I pulled from Prohibition-era aesthetics like art deco fonts and rich jewel tones to give it that secret, speakeasy feel. But I kept the layouts clean and contemporary so it would feel fresh and relevant to a modern audience.
The tone of the brand is playful and a bit cheeky. It winks at all the chaos that is modern dating. Because let’s be real. If you can’t laugh at a bad date or getting ghosted, what can you laugh at?
Creating Blind Date reminded me how powerful storytelling is in design. It’s not just about a pretty label or a clever logo. It’s about building a brand that resonates emotionally. And sometimes, a single ingredient like date sugar can unlock the entire concept.
I’d love to launch Blind Date someday. For now, I’m sharing it with the design community as a reminder that great ideas often start from something personal.
If you’ve got a concept you’ve been thinking about and want help turning it into a real brand, get in touch. I’d love to help bring it to life.
