Viridis Packaging by Student Alexandra Kashentseva Balances Aesthetic Simplicity and Ecological Intent

Despite the fact that most adhesive materials use synthetic polymers (acrylic, polyurethane, bitumen) in production, there is still the use of animal fats as plasticizers: collagen, casein and albumin. These proteins are extracted from bones, skins, tendons, ligaments, and milk protein.

Vegans, eco-activists, and sustainability advocates adhere to the principles even when repairing, but their needs go unnoticed because manufacturers do not help identify the vegetable glue in the line. People have to carefully study the formulations, regularly consult with like-minded people, and sometimes even make glue for household needs themselves. The solution to this problem was the creation of a separate line of Viridis vegetable glue.

Viridis (Latin) means “green”. It can also be translated as “blooming”, because in Latin, the root viridis is associated with the idea of vitality and growth.

The main components of Viridis vegetable glue are starch, resin and sand, and the packaging of the glue is almost completely recyclable and simplifies waste collection, as well as opens up great opportunities for cooperation with waste recycling studios. For example, the production of postcards with red clover seeds from recycled paper or jewelry made from recycled glass.

Nature is harmonious: there is no visual noise, no harm. The same principles were laid down in the design of Viridis glue packaging: natural shapes that are attracted to each other, just like everything in nature.

The design was inspired by the works of Ellsworth Kelly, which require the viewer to stop, reflect, and experience color and shape as independent phenomena, without the usual associations and meanings.
