Student Stefano Ricci’s New Identity Proposal for Artevento

My final thesis project for the Communication Design MA at ISIA in Faenza concerns the design of a new visual identity for Artevento, the International Kite Festival of Cervia, one of the most important events of its kind in the world. The festival has been held for 44 years in the spring on the beach of Cervia (Italy) and attracts a large audience. During the festival, artists perform spectacular kite flights of all shapes and sizes, creating a unique show. The event stands out for its festive atmosphere and the diversity of its participants, who come from various countries and cultures.
The goal was to create a recognizable and versatile visual identity, consisting of a set of graphic elements representing Artevento in both static and dynamic forms, for motion design applications.
Most visual identities for similar events have an aesthetic that appeals to childhood, but in order to create a more distinctive and contemporary project, I wanted it to convey a broader concept of creativity and imagination. I draw inspiration from kites with geometric lines, arriving at an extremely essential synthesis: the square and the circle.
This evocative approach engages the observer, suggesting the idea without being too obvious.
For the logo and titles, I chose the Bonto typeface, designed by the French studio Blaze Type. Bonto is a geometric display typeface that has a clear connection with the graphic elements that identify Artevento.
A project like this requires a color palette that expresses joy and vitality. I chose the colors blue, red, and yellow: the first naturally evokes the sky, while the two warm colors represent the kites and provide a good contrast. These three colors, along with black, which ensures good readability of the text, give variety and energy to the visual identity.
