Liverpool-based creative studio OneMay has designed the identity for the inaugural Liverpool City Region AI Summit, an event that celebrates the region’s AI excellence while fostering meaningful conversations about the ethical and transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
The summit, themed “AI for Good,” brought together global tech leaders, local innovators, and thought leaders to discuss the role of AI in shaping sectors like healthcare and education. OneMay’s challenge was to create an identity that reflected this forward-thinking ethos while resonating with a diverse audience.
A Logo Built on Collaboration and Progress
At the heart of the visual identity is an abstract logo featuring six spokes, each representing one of the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region. Inspired by a digital progress indicator, the logo symbolises collaboration and momentum, and the idea of perpetual motion and innovation.
“The intention wasn’t to create a literal symbol,” explains OneMay Co-Founder Lee Weaver. “Instead, we wanted an abstract mark that coudl become a flexible brand hallmark. One that we could use in different ways over time, allowing meaning to build organically as the summit grows in influence.”
The logo is complemented by harmonious gradients, blending hues that convey futurism and ambition. These gradients create a sense of fluidity and movement, mirroring the summit’s focus on dynamic, ethical AI development.
Typography Inspired by Robotics
Typography played a key role in the identity. The OneMay team selected Pangram Pangram’s PP Neue Machina, a geometric monospace typeface with beautiful ink traps, inspired by the aesthetics of robotics and machinery.
AI’s Role in Society
The summit itself tackled critical topics like AI ethics, responsible innovation, and the technology’s potential to transform industries. With speakers such as IBM UK CEO Dr. Nicola Hodson and Microsoft UK’s Zephaniah Chukwudum, the event underscored the importance of using AI as a force for good.
“This summit isn’t just about showcasing talent and innovation,” said Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram. “It’s about making sure AI works for everyone—transforming lives in healthcare, education, and beyond.”
