What is Biodesign?
Biodesign is an organization that explores the convergence of Art and Micro Biology, presenting a program that experiments with the intersection of biotechnology, art, and design. While nature serves as inspiration for art, conversely, art can enhance understanding of biology and contribute to the appreciation and conservation of artworks. Biology frequently offers the shapes, forms, colors, and concepts that inspire visual artists to depict life. Our mission is to explore the symbiotic relationship between art and biology.
The Purpose:
Microorganisms are the invisible architects of life on Earth, playing a critical role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems and supporting all forms of life. From breaking down organic matter in the soil to sustaining plant growth, regulating the atmosphere, and even helping in human health, these tiny organisms are essential to the survival and well-being of our planet. Biodesign highlights microorganisms’ important contributions and conveys a deeper understanding of their importance. Biodesign aims to celebrate microorganisms by showcasing their boundless potential and creativity.
Our Services:
Biodesign brings together passionate designers and biologists dedicated to studying and exploring the fascinating world of micronature. We invite those intrigued by our creations to visit our labs, gardens, galleries, and restaurants, where they can experience the beauty and innovation of microorganisms firsthand! Through this immersive journey, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for nature’s intricate and unseen aspects.
The Logo:
The Biodesign symbol logo combines the symbols µ and B. The µ represents “micro,” a unit known as the micrometer (10^-6), used to measure microscopic objects. The B stands for Biology. Together, µB reflects the organization’s strong emphasis on microbiology. The µ symbol plays a central role in shaping the overall brand identity. For our wordmark logo, we extend the µ symbol to incorporate the word “Biodesign,” creating a cohesive design. Additionally, the lower portion of the logo forms a bracket, allowing us to insert information within it, emphasizing the importance of the message.
