Metaphorm is our agency’s own project dedicated to creations inspired by diverse themes and brought to life through different media. For our inaugural Metaphorm we created a high-value design publication, 50X70 in size. This publication serves as a curated collection of photographs captured by an iPhone 12 Pro, during a transformative journey to Mozambique and Madagascar.
The trigger was the journey. It was one of those that change the way you see the world. The kind that compels you to do something. We only had our tools. It’s these tools we used, in order to express what we felt.
The catalyst was the children. The camera seemed not to want to capture anything else. In this place where drinking water is carried in dirty containers, and 70% of women suffer from anemia, the children dance. The children laugh. The children crave for a hug. But they don’t beg for it. Focused predominantly on them, the photographs capture the juxtaposition of their challenging circumstances alongside moments of resilience and optimism. In a world where basic necessities are scarce and adversity is prevalent the children’s smiles serve as poignant reminders of the power of human spirit.
Accompanying these evocative images are works of poetry from African and non-African poets, literary texts from both renowned and emerging authors, epistolary excerpts, journalistic reports, children’s captions, and UNICEF statistics. This fusion of image and word with the addition of white space creates a rich tapestry of narratives, offering insights into the realities faced by communities in these regions while also celebrating moments of joy and hope.
Our publication reflects our perspective on an unfamiliar and underexposed world, as we endeavor to evoke emotions, spark dialogue, and inspire action. The title “Soa Fa Haiko: It’s good to know,” derived from a boat name captured in one of the photographs, symbolizes our commitment to shedding light on these overlooked narratives and advocating for positive change.
Metaphorm is an action of empathy and social responsibility through the only way we know: the design of art and storytelling. With this publication, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of global issues, provoke meaningful conversations, and catalyze collective action towards a more equitable and compassionate world.
