The Music in the Metro project is being implemented as part of the socio-cultural development of Moscow and is aimed at creating unique musical events in the urban space that contribute to the popularization of musical culture. One of the key directions of the project was the holding of a festival that introduces the art of jazz to the citizens. The festival was named “Rhythms of the subway”, reflecting the idea of harmony of music and movement. The name symbolizes the connection between jazz rhythm and the movements of everyday life, because music and transport are inextricably linked by rhythm. During the week, three metro stations: Mayakovskaya, Prospekt Mira and Chistye Prudy will host live performances by jazz artists from 19:00 to 23:00
“Rhythms of the subway” is a synergy of movement and music, where the escalator steps turn into piano keys. Each step of the escalator adjusts to a certain jazz rhythm, and each step of the passengers seems to immerse them in the world of jazz: rhythms of smooth soul are replaced by fast melodies of bebop, and modern jazz trends are combined with classical ones. Thanks to this integration of music in the subway, it feels like every passenger becomes part of a live orchestra.
“Rhythms of the subway” is not just a decoration of a station or a musical accompaniment to a trip, it is an attempt to integrate art into everyday life, making jazz culture accessible and interesting for everyone. Music inspires and creates a mood, and thanks to its presence in the subway, even ordinary everyday trips can turn into an exciting musical adventure. For Muscovites and guests of the capital, the Rhythms of the Subway project is an opportunity to get acquainted with jazz culture, feel its energy and rhythm, as well as feel the spirit of living art that sounds in the very heart of the city.
