CF Napa’s Hole-in-One Packaging for TK Mulligan’s Golf-Inspired Cocktails

TK Mulligan came to CF Napa to create the packaging for a new line of ready-to-drink cocktails.

The legend of TK Mulligan from the brand’s website: “Born in Donegal, a picturesque town in Northwest Ireland, Thomas Kane “TK” Mulligan arrived in this world with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous spirit. The youngest of six brothers, TK learned to play by his own rules from an early age. His uncanny ability to find opportunity in the most unlikely of places and come out on top, no matter the scoreboard, inspired those around him.

In 1936, TK and three lifelong friends were playing the Corrie Golf Club on the northeast coastline of the Isle of Arran. This nine-hole course, founded in 1892, is home to some of Scotlands’s most stunning views. On the fifth hole, a Par 3 named Mount Pleasant, TK sent his tee shot well to the right of the green and far short of his intention due to the wind. Without hesitation, TK laid down a second ball. When his friends asked what he was doing, TK confidently responded, “Taking a corrective shot!”

Just like that, TK drove his second ball to the front of the green. His friends howled in disbelief, and at that moment, the “Mulligan” was born.”

The lifestyle brand celebrates the unwavering determination of the golf enthusiast and those who are bold enough to take a second chance. The design needed to capture the easygoing nature of a round of golf, the legend of the brand’s spokesperson, TK Mulligan, “The Father of Second Chances”, and highlight some of the nation’s most famous golf cocktails. CF Napa developed a wordmark incorporating a golf pin into the “I” of Mulligan.

The cocktail names were written in a script type reminiscent of those utilized by iconic golf brands. Vibrant colors helped differentiate between flavors and popped against the turf green background color of the can. The bursts of color highlighted the brand’s tagline created by CF Napa encouraging imbibers to, “Take That Corrective Shot.”

The 4-pack box design needed to support the key tenets of the brand and take advantage of the 360-degree branding opportunity.

The wordmark was featured prominently on on every panel of the box along with the cocktail names while a photo of the can further aided in SKU recognition. The illustration of a golfer personifies TK Mulligan alongside the brand narrative, encouraging the viewer to celebrate the plot twists in life that become the best part of the story.
