Romero Distilling Co. came to CF Napa Brand Design to create the branding for their distillery and line of craft rums. Based in Alberta, Canada, the brand’s inspiration was their region’s historical tradition of rum running during the period of Prohibition in Western Canada and the United States.
Tomas and Diego Romero founded Romero Distilling Co. in 2018, and it has quickly evolved to become Canada’s largest rum distillery, creating rum from scratch. They have made an international award-winning lineup of rums that are terrific sipped neat, on ice, or in a premium cocktail. The distillery also continues the tradition of giving back to its local community through staff volunteer efforts and ongoing contributions to local charities.
As Alberta’s first premier craft distiller specializing in rum, the region’s history lead to a design solution that leverages a custom bottle inspired by vintage whiskey bottles. Inspired by the tropical locales where sugarcane thrives, we created a vibrant burnt orange label that spoke to the flavors within the Dark Sugarcane Spirit and stood out vibrantly from the cream labels utilized for the rums. The wordmark and monogram complement the bottle as a contemporary take on styles of the Prohibition era. The crow icon that adorns the front of the bottle symbolizes Crowsnest Pass—the area in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta infamous for Prohibition era rum running. The top of each bottle is sealed with a label whose color differentiates between each of the rums and provides a finishing, handcrafted touch.
