Hi Estudio’s Innovative Packaging Design for Mexican Muta Wines

Hi Estudio’s Innovative Packaging Design for Mexican Muta Wines

Mexican wine, in recent years, has emerged as a significant player in the global wine industry. While it is still relatively young compared to the more established wine regions in Europe and other parts of the world, it has proven to be dynamic, bold, and full of potential. We see Mexican wine as a true paradigm shift in the wine industry, especially in how it redefines tradition, innovation, and expression. By deliberately setting ourselves apart from traditional and conventional wine proposals, we embrace a spirit of innovation that celebrates the diversity, creativity, and rich history of Mexican culture, while also looking forward to the future. Our approach is not just about crafting wines of exceptional quality but also about offering a fresh, contemporary vision that speaks to modern consumers seeking something unique and out of the ordinary.

At the core of our philosophy is the desire to offer a perspective on wine that is as dynamic as the cultural and natural forces that influence it. We draw inspiration from various artistic and environmental elements, infusing these influences into every aspect of our wine creation process. One of the key influences that guide our approach is pop art, an artistic movement that emerged in the mid-20th century, known for its bold, colorful, and sometimes unconventional use of materials, images, and themes. Pop art, with its emphasis on the collision of high and low culture, mass media, and everyday objects, resonates with our mission to challenge established norms within the wine industry.

Much like pop art, our wines aim to break away from the conventional and embrace new forms of expression. We see wine as not only a beverage to be consumed but as an artistic expression, an ever-evolving canvas that captures the spirit of the times. Wine, much like art, is a reflection of culture, identity, and place, and Mexican wine is particularly suited to explore this connection because of its distinct geographical, historical, and cultural context.

In this spirit, we are proud to present “MUTA,” a series of three wines that embody our creative vision and exploration of innovation. These wines are produced in one of Mexico’s premier wine regions: the Valle de Guadalupe, located in Baja California. This region has gained a reputation for producing some of the country’s finest wines, and its unique terroir, shaped by the interplay of ocean breezes, mountain ranges, and rich soil, offers the perfect conditions for cultivating grapes with intense flavors and aromas. Valle de Guadalupe, with its Mediterranean climate, has been referred to as the “Napa Valley of Mexico,” though it is carving out its own identity as a hub of Mexican wine production. The region’s combination of sun-drenched days and cool nights allows the grapes to ripen slowly, leading to a complexity and depth in the wines that few other regions can replicate.

The “MUTA” series reflects this spirit of place, while also embracing a bold, contemporary identity. These three wines are unified by a central theme: the use of textures and plastic materials to convey a message that is not only rooted in the here and now but also in the idea of continual transformation and evolution. “MUTA” is a term that refers to mutation or change, and in this context, it symbolizes our belief in the power of adaptation. Just as nature evolves, so too does our approach to wine, shifting and changing with the times to stay relevant, engaging, and forward-thinking.

The concept of adaptation is integral to the “MUTA” series. We believe that adaptation is essential for survival, both in nature and in the world of wine. Grapes adapt to their environment, shaping their flavor profiles based on the soil, climate, and conditions in which they are grown. Similarly, we adapt our winemaking techniques, embracing both modern technology and ancient traditions, to craft wines that speak to the present moment while honoring the past. The “MUTA” wines embody this idea of constant evolution, not only in the winemaking process but also in how they are presented to the world.

One of the most striking features of the “MUTA” series is its packaging, which is designed with the premium market in mind. The packaging itself is a bold statement, one that is meant to captivate and intrigue from the very first glance. We wanted to create a packaging experience that is as dynamic and ever-evolving as the wine it holds. To achieve this, we employed textures and materials that are not typically associated with wine packaging, pushing the boundaries of what is expected in the industry.

The label on each bottle is a central component of this experience. It is designed to be dynamic and enveloping, with a unique tactile quality that invites the consumer to engage with it on a sensory level. The label is not static; it is made from a material that inflates and deforms over time, revealing a hidden message as it changes shape. This ephemeral quality is at the heart of the “MUTA” concept, as it mirrors the transient and ever-shifting nature of both art and life. Just as the flavors of the wine evolve as it is consumed, so too does the visual and tactile experience of the packaging, creating a multisensory journey that is unlike anything else on the market.

We have designed “MUTA” for a premium and daring market, one that is not afraid to take risks and embrace the unconventional. Our target audience is sophisticated, forward-thinking consumers who are seeking more than just a product—they are seeking an experience. They are drawn to brands that push boundaries, challenge expectations, and offer something new and exciting. The “MUTA” wines are crafted with these consumers in mind, offering not just exceptional quality in terms of taste but also a compelling visual and tactile experience that sets them apart from the competition.

The wines themselves are crafted with the utmost care, using grapes from select vineyards in the Valle de Guadalupe. Each of the three wines in the “MUTA” series is distinct, yet they are unified by their exploration of texture, flavor, and adaptation. Whether it is a bold, full-bodied red or a crisp, refreshing white, each wine offers a unique expression of the terroir, while also incorporating innovative winemaking techniques that enhance its complexity and depth.

The interplay between textures and materials is not limited to the packaging—it is also reflected in the sensory experience of the wine itself. The wines in the “MUTA” series are designed to offer a layered, textured experience on the palate, with each sip revealing new flavors, aromas, and sensations. This idea of layering is central to our winemaking philosophy, as we believe that great wine should be an exploration of depth and complexity, with each element—whether it be fruit, oak, or acidity—playing a crucial role in creating a harmonious whole.

At the same time, we are deeply influenced by the evolution of nature. Just as nature is constantly changing, so too is our approach to winemaking. We embrace the natural rhythms of the vineyard, allowing the grapes to express their true character without unnecessary intervention. This philosophy of minimal intervention, coupled with our commitment to innovation, results in wines that are both rooted in tradition and forward-looking in their execution.

In conclusion, the “MUTA” series represents more than just a collection of wines—it is a reflection of our belief in the power of adaptation, creativity, and change. By combining the influences of pop art, the evolution of nature, and the rich terroir of the Valle de Guadalupe, we have created a series of wines that challenge conventional expectations and offer a fresh, contemporary perspective on what Mexican wine can be. Through its bold packaging, dynamic textures, and ever-evolving message, “MUTA” invites consumers to engage with wine in a whole new way, creating a visual, tactile, and sensory experience that is truly one-of-a-kind.
