Killer Tennis: The Retro-Futuristic VR Game Redefining Competition

Killer Tennis: The Retro-Futuristic VR Game Redefining Competition

We believe that VR games should convey universal human values such as leisure, healthy competition, and an active lifestyle. Our new VR game, Killer Tennis, stands out from the abundance of shooters by offering a unique experience.

Killer Tennis is an active sports game, blending the best elements of tennis and dodgeball. In this battle royale, 2-4 players clash with tennis rackets and balls, aiming to knock each other out. The action unfolds against a stylish synthwave backdrop, complete with retro-futuristic aesthetics and neon lights, sure to thrill fans of the 80s.

We wanted Killer Tennis to be fun and chaotic to maximize engagement and customer retention. To achieve this, we made quirky alterations to traditional tennis mechanics. Initially, we experimented with physical aiming, but this turned out to be demotivating for non-professional players. To improve player satisfaction, we implemented automatic aiming.

During each round, players can enhance their tactical skills and unlock new mechanics, ensuring a deeper level of engagement. As players pass the ball back and forth, its speed increases with each pass, making it impossible to lose focus. Additionally, floating icons around the players offer upgrades for rackets, balls, and gameplay, adding an extra layer of excitement—imagine playing tennis with a fish or a frying pan!

All the assets in Killer Tennis are custom-made using Blender and Substance Painter, ensuring both optimization and aesthetics are top-notch. As developers, we aim to distribute the game across multiple platforms. It is currently adapted for commercial use on PCs and stand-alone headsets, collecting necessary statistics and offering smooth integration with operators.

Killer Tennis is now available on Springboard and Synthesis VR, two of the largest global content marketplaces for location-based entertainment. However, one of our biggest ambitions is to bring the game into the home market. The game has great potential for stand-alone headsets, and we’re working on network optimization and fine-tuning game mechanics to make this a reality.
