Cordier by InVivo, a leading player in the French wine and spirits industry, sought to create a distinctive champagne that encapsulates the essence of the French Champagne region’s diverse terroirs. This vision led to the birth of Dival Cotel, a premium champagne brand aimed at standing out in the French market and beyond. Named after the “valleys and hills” in Champenois, Dival Cotel celebrates the unique character of the Champagne terroir, embodying elegance and authenticity.
Lonsdale, a branding and design agency with offices in Paris, Singapore and New York, was entrusted with the creation of Dival Cotel’s brand identity. The challenge was to translate Cordier’s vision into a compelling narrative and visual experience. The process began with defining a unique positioning to set Dival Cotel apart in a very crowded market. The storytelling focused on the rich heritage of the Champagne terroir, emphasizing the distinctiveness of each production zone.
Lonsdale developed a narrative inviting consumers on a journey through the Champagne region, exploring its varied landscapes and winemaking traditions. This immersive experience aimed to evoke curiosity and a sense of discovery, transforming Dival Cotel into more than just champagne, but a voyage into the heart of Champagne itself.
The creative team at Lonsdale meticulously crafted the brand’s visual identity, incorporating subtle yet striking elements that highlight the terroir’s uniqueness. The logo and signature were designed to be understated, reflecting the brand’s commitment to authenticity over ostentation. Key visuals featured intricate patterns representing different soil types—clay, limestone, and porous earth—each adding a touch of elegance to the bottle.
The design ethos revolved around minimalism and sophistication. By avoiding a clutter of colors and focusing on material textures, Lonsdale ensured that the true essence of the Champagne terroir was front and center. The typography was kept simple and refined, reinforcing the brand’s elegant yet unpretentious character.
One standout element of Dival Cotel’s packaging is its label. Lonsdale chose not to make the brand name the focal point; instead, the label highlights the Champagne terroir itself. This approach underscores the importance of origin and authenticity, making it clear that the terroir is the hero of the story. The label, crafted with high-end materials and featuring delicate details such as embossing and gold accents, exudes sophistication.
Lonsdale’s design for Dival Cotel is a testament to the power of storytelling in brand creation. By weaving a narrative deeply rooted in the Champagne region’s heritage and focusing on the authenticity of the terroir, Lonsdale has crafted a brand identity that resonates with both connoisseurs and new consumers alike. Dival Cotel stands as a celebration of the land from which it originates, offering a taste of the Champagne region’s rich tradition and unparalleled elegance.
