In the intricate fabric of human understanding, color intertwines seamlessly with our feelings and perceptions. It acts as an influential means of expression, molding our emotional landscapes and connecting us intimately with our environment, while also shaping our artistic preferences. Take, for instance, an artist’s album release, where a distinct color palette becomes forever associated with the music, creating a lasting link for the fanbase. This illustrates the profound impact of color on our daily existence and its pivotal role in shaping cultural references. This thesis delves into the complex dynamics of human perception of color, emphasizing the need to improve accessibility to color experiences.
The importance of color in our everyday lives cannot be understated. Color plays a pivotal role in various aspects of human perception, communication, experience and cultural expressions. Color is one of the constants in our lives. We learn, work, live and sometimes even dream in color. This in turn, raises the question – Is color accessible to everyone? Effective color accessible experience plays a crucial role in creating inclusive and user-friendly environments by prioritizing color choices, contrast, and alternative design elements, thereby enhancing accessibility and ensuring equal participation for individuals with visual impairments or color vision deficiencies.
‘Symphony of Colors’ advocates how color can be used as an effective tool of communication apart from its aesthetic significance, as it has the ability to convey emotions, evoke memories, and establish connections. The experience is further narrowed down to the subject of synesthesia, a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive stream leads to associated experiences in a second, unstimulated stream.
‘Symphony of Colors’ is a proposed branded experience to highlight the intricate realm of human color perception, which is subjective, in collaboration with PANTONE and Apple Music inviting visitors to interact with this phenomenon through a multi-sensory lens. ‘Symphony of Colors’ will also explore synesthesia, a neurological condition in which things experienced through one sense produce a sensation in another. By incorporating this fascinating phenomenon, this experience not only engages the audience on a sensory level but also sparks contemplation on the amalgamation of our senses.
