Badger Organic Mineral Sunscreen

Badger Balm created a daily moisturizer and sunscreen for all skin tones that is sustainable, vegan and reef-safe. The beauty brand needed artwork that added a premium look to their daily line as well as face sunscreen. The tubes and box packaging come to life with painted illustrations of the botanicals and plants used in the ingredients. This skincare line is organic and the packaging design wanted to be clean, fresh and beautiful.

The style of the artwork is illustrated in a painterly expression with a focus on realism. Each botanical is hand-drawn digitally using textured brushes to mimic a canvas painting. The grain of the brush strokes breathe life into the art. Traditional techniques of watercolor highlight the fine details, while heavy contrast deepens the shadows. The overall vibe can be described as authentic, artisan and hand-done with a focus on craftsmanship and quality. The art is painted in a delicate yet natural manner which adds to the premium mood of the branding.

During the creative process, pencil sketches of the plants and botanicals were first provided to the client. This allowed for additional art direction as the composition of the art was placed on the packaging.

Badger organic sunscreen needed a premium look to their packaging. My painterly illustrations of tropical leaves, botanicals and flowers add a sense of beauty to the skincare line. Each illustration was painted by hand, then used on the tube and box design for the cosmetic line. Adobe Illustrator was used for layout and Photoshop for packaging mockups. Since it’s debut, the beauty brand has seen an increase in sales and distribution.
