As we hit the milestone of sixteen years we wanted to throw a sweet sixteen party to thank clients, collaborators and everyone who has helped us and supported Pencil since it’s birth in 2008.

We knew that not everyone would be able to attend the party so we wanted to produce some sort of keepsake mailer to send out to those who couldn’t make it. The idea was that these pieces enabled them to celebrate with us even though they would not be able to be with us so that they could feel like they were part of the party without having to be there.

Creative Director Luke was inspired by his sixteen year old self, growing up in the mid nineties (an era that still continues to inspire and influence) he was heavily into the hip hop scene. Reminiscing of this time it became the inspiration to the piece. What can we send to clients so that they can party from their own space but also something they would want to keep and display.

We decided to send clients a bluetooth speaker and curate a playlist, again inspired by the mid nineties (mainly 1996) so that they could be part of this celebration.

A boombox was a vital element to the hip hop scene which inspired us to design a boombox box that was a vessel for the bluetooth speaker and of course some sweets.

The grill on the front of the box allows you to connect to the speaker and have the boombox as intended whether that is placed next to a piece of vinyl or on your shoulder.

We then got the team into the spirit and had a shoot to promote the piece.
