Fontecalada, a Single Vineyard Limited Edition Red Wine.
Our starting creative point for this wine was this single vineyard’s name (the toponym Fontecalada). Its meaning: “a fountain in limestone soil” conveys the distinctive mineral character of the “terroir” for this signature limited edition wine.
The area, a terrain where furnaces for calcification existed in past times, accommodates the plot on which this Mencía varietal is grown by an artisanal winemaker, Olga Verde.
We sought a depicting and profound way to express these concepts —graphically and via the printing and finishing— inspired by the terroir itself.
Breaking the mold… and breaking the label
As part of the finishing process, our printing partners accepted the challenge of creating a literal crack in the label —in the same place it appears on the design. The process was done manually for this limited edition red wine, with the added difficulty of canceling the adhesive in the area under the tear, something that also involved a creative approach.
Based on this suggestive and unique imagery, the result is intriguing and at the same time representative of this kind of winemaking: one in which the singularity of the vineyard, its composition and history, create a deep narrative that is already is already attracting wine connoisseurs to buy it.
Also, a special paper wrapping included a code linking to a custom Spotify playlist curated by the winemaker: to accompany the wine’s tasting with a matching music atmosphere.
