This is a project for the Greek Institute of Cultural Diplomacy – USA. The Greek Institute of Cultural Diplomacy is a non-profit organization aimed at creating collaborations between countries based on highlighting the cultural elements of each nation.
As part of the celebration of the centennial birth of soprano Maria Callas (1923-2023), the branch of the non-profit organization ‘Greek Institute of Cultural Diplomacy’ in Nashville, Tennessee, organized a virtual event in her honor. Greek and American sopranos will sing at the event.
My client’s brief was simple:
‘I have another poster for you to design for the Centennial celebration of Maria Callas. I will just give you the information here and leave it to you about the design and arrangement of the details.’
Project Information:
Maria Callas in Three Voices: Virtual celebration of the centennial birth of soprano Maria Callas, 1923-2023. December 2, 2023, at 12 noon CST. Events featuring Greek sopranos Sophia Papadimitriou (Athens), Eleni Kalenos (New York), and American soprano Savana Sokolnicki (Nashville).
The poster design was based on a combination of the classical style that governs opera with the minimalist style characteristic of our era. A serif font of classical style was used in a modern layout. The chosen colors, both for Maria Callas’s portrait and the poster in general, are gray reminiscent of the past, and a subdued blue shade reminiscent of the Greek color.
The goal was to create a visual experience that takes elements from the past and presents them with a contemporary perspective, attracting modern people interested in a kind of music with a rich history.
